29 faces and a bottle of rum

I have no idea why I added the rum bit..possibly because I had hoped to incorporate Captain Sparrow into my book somehow but never did somehow.

Or possibly because I’m deranged from drawing seven faces today.

Most likely I’m deranged already or I wouldn’t have tried drawing that many faces in one day.

I don’t know it’s a chicken and the egg situation. Or something.

I’m also very, very sorry for photo bombing you by the way.

The intent to post daily or every other day was there but never came to fruition

And as I’ve said there were days where no faces were drawn because I was otherwise occupied.

I am happy that I finally got all my faces done.

I am kinda horrible at finishing what I start. Maybe I’m turning over a new leaf?

I hope.

(Not all of the journal pages are completed to satisfaction but the faces are there.

And in this case I think the face is the thing.

I also have some blog hopping to do now.

Thank you for coming by. 🙂

September Mixed Media Challenge

I made this journal page for Limor Webber’s Mixed Media Challenge.
It’s for a friend, another artist, who hasn’t been having the best of times lately and it is meant to be uplifting. The stamp says”to be all that is possible,we must attempt the impossible to be all that we can be,we must dream of being more” and is from the Tim Holtz collection.

I also wrote,” Find the Beauty in life and cling to it with all your might.”

The recycled elements I used were pages that I had torn out from a book when I was making an art journal and I used the back of a birthday card to draw the girl on.

(Materials used were acrylic paint,Sharpie marker, ball point pen, card stock, book pages,Tim Holtz stamp and Ranger Distress marker in weathered wood, studio g ink in purple and Smooch in a teal blue color.)
The THEME: “GIVING BACK”

Limor’s Challenge Guidelines:

Create a project of your choice -Canvas, Art Journal, Tag, Card, Altered item etc.
Project must include at least 1 Recycled household item ( Example: Toilet paper roll, soda can, bottle cap, cereal box etc)
Include at least 1 stamp in your project ( Of course we would love to see you use Unity Stamps but not required)
Theme: this project must be for someone in your life that could use their spirits lifted or someone you just knew this would make a difference with if they received something from you. It could also be someone you know that has been active in your community and making a difference, you decide.
Have a blast!!!!!

Contest Ends on Sept 30th Midnight MST.

I took a video of me making the page too:

I was featured on TAT!

If you’ve never gone to Jennie Bellie’s website (JennieBellie Studio) or watched her videos on youtube, please let me entreat you to do that!

Jenny served as a huge inspiration towards getting me into art journaling and reusing materials in my art. I was lucky to be interviewed the other day and you can find that interview here on Tell it All Tuesday.

Please go by and show her bloggy love!

Trust me, you’ll want to stick around and see everything  going on over there. 🙂

29 faces update…I’m just a little behind

As of Saturday evening I was caught up but Saturday and Monday happened with not much but a quick sketch taking place. I think (I hope) that counts though so I’m sharing it.

Not all of my faces are my favorite thing ever but a lot of them are things that I’d like to try recreating later. I’m taking this as an opportunity to also try new things I’ve not tried before. Incorporating wax for instance, doing more mixed media. Just finding what I like doing best I guess.

If you haven’t done so yet  I invite you to click on the 29 faces button on my blog. You can see so many great examples of styles and techniques as others make their 29 faces in their own fabulous ways.

Lets call this Saturday catch-up 🙂

no prompt used and I don’t love this..but I like the idea so may re-do it

inspired by SAW Spirit Candle prompt, art geek’s Gothic romance prompt and tut and my love of the ballroom scene in the Labyrinth.

Paper Angel Art Doll

Yesterday I had my first go at a paper art doll. I made a dottee doll last month and do want to continue trying to make these art doll type things. I have a lot of catching up to do but it interests me.

I made this one for my sister:

This is a close up of her face:

I drew out the body on a separate paper and then cut it into pieces and traced it onto a paper that I had previously used to mix my paints on.

I was planning to connect the pieces with brads but the ones that I have are huge so I sewed the pieces on loosely instead. They are still movable this way.

I was inspired to make a paper doll by and am I’m linking it with the folks over at Art with no Boundaries where the week’s challenge was Anything goes and such a doll. 🙂 Thank you for stopping by.

29 Days, days 5 and 6

Hello, I’m a little off today…possibly this week. It’s making me do silly things like leave random comments on people’s blogs and overshare on Facebook. I should be sorted out by October though so no worries.

On a good note?  I am very much liking the 29 faces challenge.

This is the face for day 5:

The prompt was spiced apples and if you look to the bottom of the page my pirate is drinking an apple cider which is kind of the only thing I could think of when I thought of spices and apples. So I figure she is either at a Halloween party or she’s a modern day pirate at sea with very good supplies.  One of those, I won’t over-think it. The girl was done with pencil and painted with instant coffee. I also used that on the page to make it look older.(I should probably mention that I borrowed one of my husband’s designs for this page- the koi fish is one of his tattoo designs and I transfered it with white paint and went over it with assorted  pens.)

This is my face for day 6:

The prompt was yellow brick house.  I sketched and colored the piggie last night when I was having trouble sleeping and added it today. I do like the thought of the three little piggies being part of the world of Oz and this one finding left over bricks from the yellow brick road to build his house with. I wanted it to be Oz-esque but subtle. If I buy some red glitter anytime soon it will be added.

My day 7 face hasn’t been drawn yet but I can’t think of a better day to end today than by doing that and checking out the other faces that everyone else has been working on. 🙂
