The Virtues, or angels I’ve been painting lately

(I won’t even mention about being gone a while,I always feel like mentioning it will make me update more often…but it doesn’t. It’s like whenever I’m trying to lose weight and someone says that it looks like I’ve dropped a few pounds and I instantaneously gain five pound before I can either deflect the compliment or say thank you. Some things are just better let unsaid or unthought…or whatever.)

But anyway.

I started painting a fairy series during January and left them to start the stuff for the 80’s show. I imagined that I would pick up fairies again after I finished with that but ….I had a sudden urge to paint angels. The virtues or my take on the Virtues to be more specific.

Angel for broken heartsI painted this one first  and she’s a mixed media of collaged paper and acrylics. I call her angel of the broken hearts. Not sure I’m 100% happy with her face which was inspired by a very famous photo but that I’m just not sure about for now. Sometimes I just have to let things sit before I know what to do.

angel of GraceThis is my angel of Grace. Again she is made of collaged papers and acrylic and slightly based on a certain favorite actress of mine. I don’t like to say who because I’m a bit of a Frankenstein in that I will borrow eyes that I like from someone or a lip or a face shape, but I don’t like to base anything on someone completely and I try to work from memory as much as possible,it’s funner to see what I end up with that way. (But she may have had breakfast in a jewelry store once. )

Ariel, angel protector of animalsThis is my angel in progress. I’ve used no faces for inspiration at all on this one. She’s going to be my Ariel, angel of animals and nature and I have loads to do on her still. I find myself wanting to use watercolors again but I would really like to finish her before starting anything new!

Do you ever have trouble finishing an idea/project?

Update on Fairy painting, art for sale

I’ve been holding off on painting until I get things a little more organized around here but…I finally just gave in a worked on a few things today.

The thing is I was feeling miserable because I wanted to paint and I wasn’t getting much done. Better to paint and then work on messes I think!

Slow progress,I love watercolors but they get moody pretty quickly if you try to rush them!:)

A lot of pictures..I mean an art journal update

If there’s an area where  I need more improvement in,other than getting myself to paint everyday,it’s posting on a more regular basis. I’m just not getting it into my routine yet..but I’ll get better.

I’ve been adding to my art journal everyday in some way,but some days I am working on the same spread. It depends on how much time I have to paint that day and sometimes it’s not a lot. That’s okay I just want to get into the habit of doing something. Something, for someone like me, is good.

Tomorrow is February the first and I’ve decided to participate in the 29 faces challenge again.

I’ve done this once before and I liked it so much!  I’m extremely  happy I thought to check when the next one would be happening before I missed it. (I think these challenges might happen twice a year at the same time every year..and I will double check that, but I couldn’t remember when those times were.

Thank goodness for lucky happenstance. Anyway, art journal updates:

I started this in December but I didn't like it and abandoned it.

I started this in December but I didn’t like it and abandoned it.

I don't absolutely love it but I like it better.

I don’t absolutely love it but I like it better.

The words say:

And when birds flew by

She always stopped to watch them,

Both to enjoy their grace

to feel the piece of her soul that rose

up and pressed against her body,

the part of her

that longed to follow them.

It’s a work in progress that I wanted to jot down before I lost the idea behind it. Again not perfect but…

Something to remind myself

Something to remind myself

I worked on this yesterday, the day before that and today:

art journal 29 023

I’m so tempted to turn her into a mermaid that I might just do that…

There is no reason that this took so long other than we had a lot of errands to run this week and it’s just been an off week in general. The little drawings were from a small notebook I carry with me. I made these sketches when I was thinking of doing another nude but I lost interest in the idea. The front sketch is not in proper form but I wanted to include it anyway and another sketch is on the other side of the notebook paper that I included as well.

art journal 29 021The words here are,”Dream:I want to live near the ocean one day.” (A dream I’ve had since the first time I stepped foot in the ocean.I was ten or something. Sigh. Maybe one day?)

There is one more two page spread that I want to share but that I’m hoping to get better pictures of . It’s one of my favorites so far. And there is another one that I’ll share later as well, that is probably my least favorite so far.

This book is about trying new things and those things aren’t always going to work,so it’s okay.

29 faces..starting tomorrow! I’m so excited to begin.

Summer of Color 3-sage and sepia

Well this year’s Summer of Color did not go the way that I planned. This is the last week of Summer of Color and only the second time that I have participated. :|. I took for granted that my inlaws visiting and a huge summer road trip would not keep me from participating  but I was wrong. It’s not a huge deal and I’ve been enjoying seeing what others have done for the challenges when I am able to. A big thanks to Kristin of Twinkle,Twinkle for hosting this again and giving all of us a chance to mingle while getting  inspired. I can’t wait til the next Summer of Color comes around again.:)

The colors for this week were sepia and sage. I took the chance of trying a sepia oil paint that I had and got as close to sage as I could do with watercolors. This art journal spread is in my text book journal(I hope to do a vlog on it soon.) Thanks for coming by,

Lyd.  sage.sepia

29 Days, days 5 and 6

Hello, I’m a little off today…possibly this week. It’s making me do silly things like leave random comments on people’s blogs and overshare on Facebook. I should be sorted out by October though so no worries.

On a good note?  I am very much liking the 29 faces challenge.

This is the face for day 5:

The prompt was spiced apples and if you look to the bottom of the page my pirate is drinking an apple cider which is kind of the only thing I could think of when I thought of spices and apples. So I figure she is either at a Halloween party or she’s a modern day pirate at sea with very good supplies.  One of those, I won’t over-think it. The girl was done with pencil and painted with instant coffee. I also used that on the page to make it look older.(I should probably mention that I borrowed one of my husband’s designs for this page- the koi fish is one of his tattoo designs and I transfered it with white paint and went over it with assorted  pens.)

This is my face for day 6:

The prompt was yellow brick house.  I sketched and colored the piggie last night when I was having trouble sleeping and added it today. I do like the thought of the three little piggies being part of the world of Oz and this one finding left over bricks from the yellow brick road to build his house with. I wanted it to be Oz-esque but subtle. If I buy some red glitter anytime soon it will be added.

My day 7 face hasn’t been drawn yet but I can’t think of a better day to end today than by doing that and checking out the other faces that everyone else has been working on. 🙂

29 faces, face 3 and 4

It’s kind of impossible for me to post daily right now but I do hope to update every other day.

These are my faces for 29 faces, day 3 and day 4. Day three needs something…I do plan to add words later but am at odds with them right now. Not the words that would go here just words in general. Please click on the 29 faces button on my sidebar to see fantastic faces done by others!

Catch a Fallin Star

I do know that it’s supposed to be Falling but I didn’t want to set off any copyright issues. (Because Fallin is a huge difference obviously?) 😉

I may be a little sensitive to that sort of thing lately because my husband is trying to monetize videos on YouTube and they get rejected due to copyright reasons more often then they should.

His videos are of him drawing his own original tattoo designs and sometimes using tracks of music that are royalty free and available to use with credit to the website.(Dano-songs)

YouTube still sites copyright as the reason for refusing to monetize.

I don’t know-It’s a little frustrating but  I guess we can be thankful for the ones that are okay-ed..most of which have the same music on them but that’s enough of that.Okay, rant over. Sorry.

My journal page for yesterday:

I was keen to make up more of this baking soda mixture that I’ve been using for texture and which I got from Lesley Dupont ‘s blog,Harmony Road Studio. I had talked about this on one of my vlogs but I use it a lot and love it so far so I wanted to share it here too. I used some for the first time today on canvas too because I’m wondering how it will hold up on there. But I’ll be sharing that one when it is finished. 🙂

Here’s a close up of one of the stars:

I used a little bit of the yellow Stickles glitter  I got from Kristin. I’m really loving the Stickles-I had never used them before and I’m impressed with them and how the tube never clogs up like glitter glue tends to do.

I also got my first ATC in the mail today! I was surprised at how happy that made me but it did make me super happy. I guess it’s  one of those little things that I had been meaning to start getting into a long time ago but hadn’t been able to. The girls are older now and keep themselves occupied more than they used to. It’s good to have spare moments for stuff like this.

The swap was over at Swapbot and the theme was carnivorous plants.

This is the card I recieved:

(The picture doesn’t do it justice, it pops out from the background and all of the red parts have been highlighted with red glitter.I liked the raffia too. Very cool.)

And this is the one that I sent out:

(back of card)

My partner also sent me some cool ATC sized images that I plan to using in the future and a cool image of a gargoyle. I was not expecting that but it was a cool surprise.  These cards and the package that I received from my journal page swap partner really made me realize how much I miss getting mail. I want to make some stationary up and start the girls and myself on the habit of sending out letter.

I’m a little bit of denial about summer being over soon and plan to find some really fun stuff for my girls and I to do together for the next couple weeks. Hopefully I will still be able to create, I just might not be able to do too many new things at a time. Which is funny because I keep signing up for new things to try and groups, lol, I’m incorrigible! (And I can’t help myself, ahem.)

Anywho, that’s what’s new in my neck of the woods I’d love to hear what you’ve been up to.
