Bubble Pop Princess or a Painting of the kid’s toys

My kids always leave these cool little scenes from playing with their toys on our kitchen table or on the sofa …in the bath tub or in front of the front door. When I’m not annoyed that I just tripped over something(again) these scenes usually make me pause and smile. I finished painting such a scene earlier this month but never showed the finished product.

This is Bubble Pop Princess(which makes me think of Gwen Stefani for some reason?)

pop princess bubble girlShe is an 16 x 20 canvas, done in acrylics and she is currently hanging in our studio/gallery.

I noticed that the topic for Illustration Friday this week was toys and so I thought it might be the perfect time to share her. I may have taken more photos recently that I plan to paint in this style soon. 🙂 They’re a lot of fun to do!

Big Eye fanart Amy Adams

Happy New Year!!!!

I’m hoping that this year continues the way that it started, with me hearing about a new challenge at the last minute and then diving in so that I end up going to sleep way too late covered in paint but happy.

I’d be completely fine with that.

I painted this fan art painting last night when I heard that Tim Burton will be judging a fan art contest for the movie Big Eyes. What are the rules? What do you get?

Big Eyed AmyI have no idea.

I just like Tim Burton and was excited enough about the Big Eyes movie to paint and enter. It’s a small acrylic painting,5 x 7 but as I’ve been working on ACEOs lately it was big enough. The deadline is January 2nd if you catch a wild hair like I did and want to join go here.

I’m also going to try for 30 paintings in 30 days again. I liked the routine that this challenge got me into last year and more exciting news….

My husband and I just got a little art studio in town where we hope to have open to the public at least once a month! He had just taken a lot of his art work to a local gallery and I don’t really have as many pieces as I’d like so I figure if I’m able to get at least a few more decent works done this month then  I’ll be in good shape. 🙂

So how is your 2015 shaping up?

Nibblefest entry for Two or more creatures mixed together

I’ve watched the Nibblefest Facebook page for ages from afar without joining in. Well,I’ve finally tried my hand at one of their prompts and listed on ebay.

Nibblefest is a monthly themed art contest. Contests run from the 20th to the 27th of every month. All artwork is listed on Ebay .com at 99¢ no reserve!

The theme for November was two or more creatures joined together and while I had many ideas in the end I went with this one:

butterfly fairy womanMy Lady Butterfly.

You can find the listing for her here, she’s a 5×7 acrylic painting on watercolor paper. She does not come framed but will be packaged in a way to avoid damage. Please have a look at here on the ebay page where I have more photos. And look at the others who are competing in this contest too. 🙂

SugarPlum Fairy ACEO

Day two of the 30 ACEO in 30 day challenge.

If you can’t tell that I really like challenges than let me just say that I do,I really like challenges. It’s not really incentive to do something that makes them interesting to me it’s seeing what others do with the same prompt. I mentioned that this particular challenge is to make 30 holiday themed ACEOs in 30 days and all of the artists participating are making very cool cards for the challenge. Penny Stewart has decided to do a Nutcracker theme, not The Nutcracker just Nutcrackers in general. Gaylene Allen has decided to go with a candy theme and Joy Redington of Spreading Joy through Art  has chosen not to go with a theme besides the Christmas one. You can see all of the cards for this challenge here.

Sugarplum fairyThis card is my version of the Sugarplum fairy. 3.5 x 2.5 Acrylics, watercolor and prismacolor pencils. Available for sale $6.00,$1.00 shipping and you can pay through paypal if you get in touch with me at lydiapharris at gmail dot com. 🙂

Update on Fairy painting, art for sale

I’ve been holding off on painting until I get things a little more organized around here but…I finally just gave in a worked on a few things today.

The thing is I was feeling miserable because I wanted to paint and I wasn’t getting much done. Better to paint and then work on messes I think!

Women Painting Women

I have been working on a painting for this month’s show at the Kendall called women painting women.
It’s inspired by Women painting women.
And will be an auction raising money for a scholarship fund to aid aspiring artists.

The only problem is that part of this that says they want artwork showcasing the woman form…my piece doesn’t do that!
I’ll share a few progress pics but I want to keep the final piece private until after the show.

If this painting isn’t suitable than I plan to see if I can put the older piece I did for the Nude show in. This does show the woman’s form but it does so in a small scale. See it here.
Ack. Hopefully this one will be okay though because I really want to show it!

P.S I have a few ACEOs that I’ve shared here before for sale on etsy now. So far I’ve listed A Red Queen, Mummy Girl and Friend and Vampire girl and bat. See them all here. 🙂

Fairy watercolor painting

I really, really want to get better at doing watercolors. That is going to take practice and patience….I’m not great when it comes to patience. 🙂
I’m trying.

This is a fairy watercolor,I did use a little white acrylic in places as well-the wings were fading into the background so I wanted to lighten them. This is 9×12 on watercolor paper. Linking this to Leslie Saeta’s 30 paintings in 30 days as painting number 23,which is way more paintings then I did last month. (Behind but still going!)
